A Common Passion

As I walk the District, I am struck by several things: There are very distinct and diverse neighborhoods, and each has specific benefits and problems – some obvious, others hidden.

People love this community, have dreams for their families, they have opinions, and some have possible solutions. Many freely speak of their family to this stranger.

They’re often surprised that I’m going door-to-door to meet them; to ask what their issues might be. Some say, “What issues – look where we live!” Some have a list of problems they've wanted to unload on anyone with a connection to city leadership.

A few are focused on just one question – and I’d better agree, or the door closes quickly.

One commonality among those I have met is a passion for their neighborhood, their school, and Long Beach – and some fear we are losing our vision of what we are and can be as a city.

I share their passion. I have a strong history of affecting change for the better. Becoming the next Third District Councilman will bring me to the next level of service to this community.

I have a strong history of building relationships, developing common ground, and clarifying vision. A testament to that is the 17 neighbors I met for the first time who wanted to sign my candidate nomination. Truly a humbling experience, and proof to me I’m the person best suited to serve the people of the Third District.

A Passion and Initiative for Community

A Passion for Community ~ The Desire to Serve

I am running for Third District City Council because I am passionate about our community and want to continue to make a positive impact. I have been proactive in each of my initiatives and involvements in Long Beach -- for my organization and through my community involvements. These include: Hosting Neighborhood Association meetings and Precinct Voter Polls; Mitigating negative issues; Neighborhood Clean-ups Events; Serving on the Chamber's Government Action Committee; the Gang Reduction, Intervention, and Prevention Taskforce; Speaking at the '07 Police Academy; Course Leader of Leadership Long Beach; Becoming CERT certified; Making major innovations in the Greater Long Beach Leadership Prayer Breakfast that increased attendance, initiated Forums on Development & Leadership. I will also proactively engage and empower our younger leaders to build their future.

AND we are a proactive Third District Campaign.

We are celebrating many Firsts:

17 of our 30 Nomination signatures were received during precinct walks going door-to-door, from people I had not previously known, and 9 were from those who approached me wanting to sign. That is over 57% from new relationship-building alone. This is an example of how I develop common ground.

So, if you have not yet joined us, or can increase your involvement, NOW is the time to act to help me become your Councilman of the 3rd District and Long Beach.

Thank you for your thoughtful and prayerful consideration!
